Have you ever thought why your always tired in school, after school, and unmotivated to finish any tasks for the day? A big factor in these changes can come from poor sleep patterns. As hard as maintaining a daily routine of around 8 hours of sleep is as a high schooler is, it is very important to have this implemented into your schedule to create positive changes around you. Although it may be hard to change a busy schedule to get more sleep, there are still ways to improve the sleep you can get and be able to stay motivated throughout the day.
What Causes Poor Sleep?
Many biological as well as mental factors can create a habit of poor sleep and it's important to recognize the causes so that the solution is easier to find. Some things that can cause irregular sleep patterns is heavy stress, uncomfortable sleep environments, or hectic after school schedules. Other simpler causes can be uses devices close to bed times, consuming wide amounts of caffeine, as well as social pressures.
Ways to Help Improve Sleep
Easy ways to improve sleep and your overall daily life is limiting screen times and caffeine. Caffeine may be helping you to stay awake, however, with more consumed the less sleep you will get, needing more caffeine. This can be a never ending cycle that won't get better with time. Since stress can also become a big reason for poor sleep, some ways you can try to reduce stress is by doing small things like meditating, staying organized, maintaining a healthy diet, and journaling. Other ways to start healthy habits is starting to become active and exercise, for example going on walks and having a relaxing nighttime routine. By making these small changes to our lives, we can start to see great positive impacts in our sleep and routine.
Benefits of Healthy Sleep Schedule
Having a healthy sleep schedule can not only be good for our mental well being but also our physical well being as well. Just by getting a good amount of sleep you lower yourself for risk of heart diseases, improve your metabolism, avoid injuries caused by drowsiness, and improve your immune system which helps you get less sick. Sleep can also significantly improve your mood, reduce stress, and help get along with others. It can also make you more motivated and ready to take on tasks for each day. Better sleep can also help better cognitive performances such as thinking more clearly and being able to make better decisions. With healthier sleep schedules, the academic and social life can significantly improve.
Sleep may seem like a small issue however it can create great negative impact on you life if not fixed. Many people undermine sleep as a factor that can cause poor mental health or daily routines. By trying small to create small positive changes such as sleep, you can be improving a number of things for your overall well being. Sleep is vital in teenage years as we are still developing and we need to find ways for our body to relax well and be in good shape for the next day.
